What Are Backlinks?
What are backlinks? It is an arrangement of links between web pages that allows people to view your web site and visit it. This can be either from external sites, such as one site linking to another, or a system of links from other people to yours.
Backlinks are crucial to establishing a presence on the Internet. They show other people that you are active and ready to make purchases, and get your business name out there. In order to achieve high rankings on search engines, there must be backlinks that point back to your site.
Backlinks can come from a variety of sources. Some may come from directories. Other backlinks come from other web sites that link to yours. Some web sites use links that point to yours for the sole purpose of getting more traffic to their sites.
The key is to not submit content you don’t think will be valuable to your potential customers to your site and to only post articles on your site that are likely to be good. Good content is what will get you and your business recognized by the search engines.
There are two main elements that you must keep in mind when you are trying to find backlinks. These are the quality and quantity of links. Both will determine how effective your marketing efforts are.
When you are building links from other web sites, you should concentrate on those that have long-standing communities and websites. Try to submit articles that have a good chance of being useful to people in these communities.
List the locations of these sites and include links to the site. Do not link to any pages that you have not visited. Links from these web sites should be clicked, if possible.
If you are submitting articles, do not leave links within the article itself. Instead, use a page called a “permalink” to insert the links into the text. The more links you leave in the article, the less chance the search engines have of ranking your article high enough to make a reader click on the link.
You may also want to consider posting some of your articles to several newsgroups. Newsgroups help search engines index your article and also get other people to see them.
These same search engines that search for web sites will be able to index your blog. Keep in mind that you cannot place links to your blog in your signature file, but you can leave links on your posts. The links should be listed first on the page where they are placed.
After you have submitted your blog, make sure that you continue to update the blog. This is just as important as adding content to your blog. When you add new content, make sure that it gets indexed.
Once you have a list of backlinks, make sure that they are updated periodically. The more links you have, the better off you will be. When you are blogging, always update your blog to keep it current.
